An Arrhythmia is an abnormal rhythm of the heart, which can cause the heart to pump less effectively. The heart may pump too fast, too slow or irregularly.
The Cardiac Arrhythmia Clinic Service at Pulse helps people who have heart rhythm problems. We work with patients to diagnose, assess and manage their condition.
Our
Arrhythmia speciality clinic
includes:
Hypertension is also known as High Blood Pressure (High BP) is a major risk factor for heart attacks, heart failure, kidney failure, stroke-paralysis and loss of memory. The normal BP level for all adults should be under 140/90 mm Hg day and night.
If the patient also has diabetes, the BP level should be close to 130/80 mm Hg.
This is significant considering that only 50% of those with hypertension are aware of their condition.
“Of the total adult population approximately half are estimated to be hypertensive, but only half of these are diagnosed with hypertension. Surprisingly only half of those who are diagnosed are started on treatment. Of those on treatment, half of them are on appropriate (Correct) treatment. Of those on correct treatment only half ultimately achieve desirable (Target) blood pressure. Such is the magnitude of the problem.
To
simply put it only 25 individuals out of 800 deservings for treatment, are aptly treated.”
Once hypertension is documented, certain lifestyle changes have to be made, including reduction of salt intake, alcohol consumption, and weight, besides greater physical activity and use of an individual antihypertensive drug or drug combinations as initial therapy.
